David F. Walker




David F. Walker is the Eisner and Ringo Award-winning writer of the original Bitter Root comic series (Image) and the Naomi series (DC). He has also written extensively for Marvel (Luke Cage, Occupy Avengers, Power Man and Iron Fist, Nighthawk, Fury, Deadpool) as well as Cyborg and Young Justice for DC, Shaft for Dynamite, Planet of the Apes for Boom, and Number 13 for Dark Horse, among many other comic book series and publishers. He is the author of the acclaimed graphic novels The Life of Frederick Douglass and The Black Panther Party (winner of the Eisner Award for best reality-based graphic novel), as well as the upcoming graphic history of Black moviemaking in America and Big Jim and the White Boy, a retelling of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of the slave boy, Jim (both forthcoming from Ten Speed Press). His Bitter Root series is currently in development as a feature film with Legendary with Ryan Coogler producing and Regina King directing. Naomi became a hit TV series on the CW, written and executive produced by Ava DuVernay. Walker’s first YA novel, The Adventures of Darius Logan, is due out from Scholastic in 2023. Recognized as a leading scholar expert of African American cinema, Walker also produced one of the definitive documentaries on the topic of Blaxploitation films, Macked, Hammered, Slaughtered, and Shafted.
